Orites wind farm is under the ownership of D.K Windsupply Ltd. A project that was developed, finance, build and operated by Mr. Akis Ellinas and his overseas partners. Is not only Cyprus first and biggest wind farm but also the biggest in the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
The wind farm, has installed capacity of 82MW, was developed in an area of 16km² in Orites area, near Kouklia and Archimandrita and cost around €200 million. The project was financed by the European Investments Bank (EIB), which provided 50% of the project’s funding, and 4 other European banks.
During the construction works, a total of 41 Vestas V-90 wind turbines (2MW each) were erected on site. All construction works were completed by mid-June 2010 and since late August 2010 the wind farm started its operation producing the first ever Green Energy in Cyprus. When fully operational the Orites wind farm covers about 3,5% of Cyprus electrical needs.
